ASPT Incoming President Address - Eric H. Roalson

Roalson, Eric [1].

Beyond statements – how ASPT can realize its commitments.

The last few years have not only seen substantial change to the world and society, but also how we function as scientists/educators and a professional society. We have all experienced, to one degree or another, how the ongoing pandemic, wars, and continuing need for social justice reform have impacted our lives and our work. How will ASPT react to these changes and challenges? I will present some historical context to how ASPT has changed over time and how it is addressing some of these challenges as we look to the future. How ASPT survives or thrives as a professional society in these circumstances may come down to our willingness to move from statements to actions, and our recognition that despite our fond remembrances, change is a constant for a scientific society.
