From the backbone to diversification: unraveling the evolutionary history of Ericales Ye, Mingyue [1], Qiu, He [1], Zhang, Ting [2], Liu, Xi [3], Goncalves, Deise [4], Li, Pan [5], Smith, Stephen [6]. Phylogenomics, biogeography and character evolution of Styracaceae. Styracaceae are a small family in the order Ericales, containing twelve genera and around 170 species of trees and shrubs. The family has a widespread but disjunct distribution, occurring from tropical and temperate Asia, America, and Mediterranean. In this study, we aim to reconstruct the genomeāscale phylogeny and infer the evolutionary history for Styracaceae. We sequenced and assembled 18 transcriptomes from 17 species, representing all twelve recognized genera in the family. Using phylogenomic approaches, the backbone relationships of Styracaceae were fully resolved with high support. Although instances of conflicts were observed between nuclear and plastid phylogenies, the topology of Styracaceae were mostly consistent in both phylogenies, as (Styrax, (Huodendron, ((Alniphyllum, Bruinsmia), (Parastyrax, a clade of all other genera)))). However, the genera Halesia and Pterostyrax were revealed as non-monophyly, thus further taxonomic revisions are still needed. In addition, we will also conduct ancestral area reconstruction and ancestral character evolution analyses to uncover the evolutionary history of the family.
