Abstract Detail
Innovation and Novelty in the Evolution of Plants Parins Fukuchi, Caroline Tomomi [1]. Phenotypic innovation, information theory, and phylogenetic discordance in deep time. Episodes of phenotypic innovation often coincide with episodes of extensive phylogenetic conflict, in both phenotypic characters and across the genome. I will discuss new approaches to tease apart alternative sources of conflict and innovation, while also contributing a stronger understanding of the role of conflict-generating processes in driving episodic bursts of phenotypic innovation.
