Progress on the Open Green Genomes Project, a DOE Joint Genome Institute Community Science Program Initiative.

Reference quality genome asseblies and annotation are being generated as part of the Open Green Genomes (OGG) Project, a DOE Joint Genome Institute (JGI) Community Science Program (CSP) Initiative. The Open Green Genomes Initiative seeks to improve the phylogenetic representation of reference genome sequences across land plants by generating at least thirty-five high-quality genome assemblies and annotations across all major evolutionary lineages in the land plant tree of life (target genomes are labelled in bold below). This work will greatly improve comparative analyses of the genes, regulatory networks and metabolic pathways influencing plant growth, responses to environmental stress, and production of valuable plant products. To date, X genomes have been completed and deposited into Phytoszome. We will highlight the utility of these genomes and the a timeline for completion of additional genomes.
