Finding common goals between Conservation Biology and Natural History Collections.

For the past three years, the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collection's (SPNHC) Biodiversity Crisis Response Committee has been actively engaging our global community in advancing the role of collections in biodiversity conservation. Our work has included a broadly-distributed survey that informed our understanding of individual and collective efforts to address the biodiversity crisis, creating a resource list with examples of the use of collections in conservation, ongoing participation in meetings and activities of the Convention on Biological Diversity, organization of a webinar and an upcoming symposium highlighting how biodiversity collections benefit applied conservation, and hosting a roundtable discussion to strengthen connections with conservation biologists. Our current work focuses on understanding and addressing the needs of conservation biologists as they pertain to biodiversity data access and use. In this presentation, we will also highlight ways that members of other communities, including those coming together at the Botany conferences, can be a part of these efforts.
